Wet natural sandstone pool deck laid in large rectangular slabs, curving around the edge of an in-ground pool with a river-rock border along the garden

Halton Hills · Ontario

Interlock, patios and retaining walls, laid by the person who quotes them

Dynamic Landscapes is Cole Roden. He measures your job, prices it, and then lays the stone himself. New installations carry a two-year warranty.

What he builds

Sandstone slab walkway and front steps leading to a brick house entry, framed by a stone border and planting bed

Interlock & Patios

New patios, walkways and steps, plus repairs to interlock that has sunken or shifted. Base rebuilt properly, stone relaid tight.

Retaining Walls

Block walls that hold a grade, raised planters and garden bed edging. Drainage and base done first, because that's what keeps a wall straight.

Natural Stone

Flagstone, sandstone slab and natural steps. Heavier material, hand-set, for a look that doesn't repeat every third driveway.

Featured project

A walkway repair, not a rebuild

The existing interlock had sunk and the joints were full of weeds. Rather than sell new stone, Cole lifted what was there, rebuilt the base and relaid it — a smaller decision and a smaller number than starting over.

Before

  • Before: settled interlock walkway with pavers lifted and stacked to the side, weeds growing through the joints

The walkway had settled and weeds had taken the joints. The pavers themselves were fine — the base under them wasn't.

  • Before: the same interlock walkway from the yard end, pavers sunken and shifted along the fence line

Along the fence the stone had shifted and dropped, so water ran back toward the house instead of away from it.

After

  • After: the walkway relaid level in cobble pavers, running tight along the house wall with a straight border course

Stone lifted and stacked, base dug out, regraded and compacted, then the same pavers relaid level.

  • After: new interlock apron where the relaid walkway meets the asphalt driveway, cut on a clean curve

A new apron ties the walkway into the driveway so the edge stops creeping.

  • After: finished cobble walkway between the fence and the house, level from the driveway to the back deck

Joints swept and locked. Straight lines from the driveway through to the back deck.

Questions

What does a patio or walkway cost?

Every job is priced by quote after Cole sees it, because base depth, access and material change the number more than square footage does. Estimates are free and done on site, and the price you get comes from the person doing the work.

How long does a job take?

Most residential walkways and patio repairs run one to three days. Larger patios and retaining walls typically run three to five. You'll get a start date and a realistic finish date before anything is torn up.

What does the two-year warranty cover?

New installations carry a two-year warranty on the workmanship — settling, shifting and joint failure caused by the install. Damage from vehicles, tree roots, utility digs or ground movement outside the work area isn't covered. Repairs to existing interlock are warrantied on the section rebuilt.

How often should asphalt be sealed?

Every two to three years for most driveways in this climate. Sealing more often than that mostly builds up film; leaving it longer lets water into the cracks and the freeze-thaw does the rest.

Who actually shows up?

Cole. He quotes the job and he builds it. There's no crew being dispatched and no salesperson in between.
